Since 2007, SNVC employees have come together each year as Team SNVC Success to raise over $50,000 for the March of Dimes and walk in the March for Babies to support their coworker. In 2007, an SNVC employee lost her baby due to a rare chromosomal disorder. The little girl lived only four hours, but today is considered a guardian angel over her big sister and little brother. Since then, other SNVC families have experienced premature births as well, each receiving support from the March of Dimes. It is essential therefore, that as SNVC grows, so does its support for organizations that directly benefit its employees’ families.
On May 7, 2011, 30 SNVC employees, family, and friends gathered at Nationals Park in Washington D.C. to walk in the 2011 March for Babies. Each donning a “United SNVC Cares” t-shirt, the group gathered to share in the celebration of life and support the families who have lost children to prematurity and birth defects. “This is a very important opportunity to support not only our own employees and their families, but families across the country affected by complications at birth and infant mortality,” stated SNVC CEO, Tom DeWitt. Over the past 5 years, SNVC has developed partnerships with local businesses and hosted fundraising events at Baja Fresh, Caffe Amouri, Cici’s Pizza, and Monument Café. The team captains, Gina Santos, Dayna Zane, Beth Miller-Herholtz, Ellen Baumgardner, and Kiara Girkins, led the group in raising over $16,000 this year alone. Every year, half a million babies in the U.S. are born prematurely. Premature birth is the leading cause of newborn death and many life-long disabilities. The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality.
