Aurora Foundation Receives 2nd Grant from Battelle

SNVC’s non-profit organization, The Aurora Foundation, is pleased to announce it has received a second grant from Battelle. The grant is used to continue the internship program that was created in December 2010 and is focused on bringing student veterans into the banking community. It is referred to as From Boots to Books to Banks.

Using its first grant, Aurora established a partnership with John Marshall Bank, who hosted a Marymount University business major and student veteran for eight weeks. Mr. Giovanni Fernandez was selected from a number of applicants to intern under this program. During the eight week internship, Fernandez experienced many facets of banking, from retail to lending to the IT support required throughout the bank. It was the last requirement needed before graduation in December. At a ceremony held at SNVC’s Headquarters, Battelle’s sponsor Mr. Bobby Chin joined Mr. Mark Moore from John Marshall Bank and leadership from the Aurora Foundation to congratulate Fernandez on his successful internship. Mr. Moore, Executive Vice President and Chief Lending Officer for the bank, commented, “We were very pleased to work with Aurora to establish an internship designated for our student veteran community. We appreciate the funding support from Battelle, as well.”
